Where to go out in Abidjan

Abidjan is a city of communes, and each has its own rhythm. Plateau, the business district, mostly hosts professional events, conferences and evening cultural dates. Cocody holds a large share of the venues, hotels and upscale events.

South of the lagoon, Marcory and Zone 4 are known for their restaurants and nightlife, and Treichville for its big popular gatherings. Yopougon, the city’s most populous commune, is one of the hearts of Ivorian music and of the maquis.

When to go out

Friday and Saturday nights carry most concerts and parties; Sunday afternoon is the slot for family events. Weekday events start later, to let the traffic clear.

The long dry season, December to March, is the main season for festivals and outdoor events. In the rainy season — May to July, then October — check whether the event is covered, and look at the event page before you set off.

Getting around at night

Crossing the lagoon at rush hour can take more than an hour. Allow plenty of time if the event is on the other side of the bridges, and arrive before the doors open: getting in is quicker early in the evening.

For the way home, taxis and ride-hailing cars are scarcer and dearer after midnight. Book ahead or travel as a group.

Booking tickets safely

Buy on the official event page rather than from a reseller on WhatsApp: a ticket resold hand to hand may already have been used or transferred. On TiketBurst the QR code changes at short intervals and each ticket is validated only once, which makes screenshots and copied tickets useless.

Can no longer go? If the organizer allows it, transfer your ticket to a friend from your account: your QR code is deactivated and a new ticket is issued in their name.
